White Castle Secret MenuWhat started as a little white “castle” in Wichita, Kansas turned into what is known as America’s first fast-food hamburger chain. Founders Walt Anderson and Edgar Waldo “Billy” Ingram chose the name White Castle because white signifies cleanliness and purity, and a castle signifies strength, stability, and permanence.

Anderson had been making burgers since 1916. In fact, many people believe his were the first hamburgers as we know them today. He pressed ground meat into a patty, punched holes in the top to let the aroma come through, and grilled the patty with onions and pickles on top. He then placed the burger on a dinner roll bun to absorb the juice.

Often referred to as sliders, gut bombs, Whiteys, roach burgers, belly busters, and castles, these delicious burgers were just five cents until the 1940s when the price rose to ten. Since then, White Castle’s menu has expanded, including a lesser-known secret menu.

Secret Menu Item #3: Harold and Kumar’s Order

In 2004, Harold and Kumar went to the White Castle. The stoner comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle follows two men who get the munchies and embark on a quest for White Castle burgers. Their shenanigans take them through a gang of extreme sports punks, a raccoon with an attitude, a group of nerds, a racist police department, a cheetah that escaped from the zoo, and other out-of-control problems.

After the movie grew popular, people started ordering “Harold and Kumar’s order.” Harold ordered 30 sliders, five French fries, and four large cherry Cokes. Kumar ordered the same, except he wanted Diet Coke.

The next time you’re at White Castle, just say you want Harold and Kumar’s order, and this is what you’ll get. Bring antacids.white-castle-harold-kumar

To Conclude

White Castle claims many firsts: the first burger chain, the first slider, the first to sell a million burgers, then the first to sell a billion burgers, and the first to sell its frozen burgers in supermarkets nationwide.

If you haven’t tried White Castle, it’s definitely worth the pilgrimage. Try the regular menu and throw in a few secret menu items. One thing’s for certain: you won’t be able to eat “just one” of anything.
