Ferch's Malt Shoppe

 5636 Broad St
Greendale, WI

Step back in time to the "Good Old Days"

Walking into Ferch’s Malt Shoppe in charming Greendale is like walking into a movie set. The decor is set up like an old time soda shop with a lunch style counter and intimate little booths, complete with a retro style jukebox. You give your order at the register and the friendly servers deliver your meal directly to you. For nostalgia’s sake, I had to order a chocolate malt. Served with a generous dollop of whipped topping, it was delicious. To go along with the malt, I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The fries were seasoned with a special topping and served crispy style. The burger was huge. The various ice cream desserts looked amazing, but since I was full, I’ll have to save that for another time.

Mulligans Irish Pub & Grill

 8933 S 27th Street
Franklin, WI

Fish fry Friday rocks!

Since it’s practically a law in Wisconsin to eat fish fry on Friday night, our group of 22 people had to check out Mulligans and they were amazing! They have a nice selection of choices, including perch, walleye, bluegill or the combo plate with all three. Each dinner is served with your choice of colcannon potatoes, beer battered fried fish or potato pancakes, rye bread and coleslaw. Our server was friendly and kept track of 22 different entrees and made it look easy, especially on a busy night. There were several other big parties that night and the staff managed to keep things humming along. I have also eaten here on other nights and recommend their other menu items including their burgers and wonton wrapped mozzarella sticks. Keep up the good work Mulligans!

Fish Fry combo plate

A tasty and big plate of perch, walleye and bluegill, served with your choice of potato, coleslaw and rye bread was filling and tasty.

Kaisers pizza & pub

 510 57th St
Kenosha, WI

Great food in a casual atmosphere!

Kaiser’s consistently offers a wide variety of amazing food with warm and friendly service. Our group of five met here for a Saturday night dinner. We enjoyed an order of fried ravioli as an appetizer. Two people ordered the SMOG pizza loaded with sausage, mushrooms, and green peppers which was quickly devoured. The bbq chicken wrap and Italian beef sandwiches was the choice of the other two people in our party. I had the taco pizza, which was delicious. Our server Henry kept drinks refilled and checked in several times to make sure everything was ok. The place was packed and everyone was well taken care of. Come by for a nice relaxing evening with delicious food!

Taco pizza served on a crispy crust with taco meat, melted cheddar cheese, tomatoes lettuce, black olives and jalepenos.

Delightful dinner with Spanish tapas

Tapas is one of my favorite foodie spots because you can try a variety of yummy dishes and Movida ranks right up there with the best. I joined a group of 5 diners and several of us ordered the white wine sangria to start. It was the perfect complement to our tasting adventure. We ordered a array of dishes including, baked goat cheese, spanish grilled corn, lomo tosta (pork loin), beets, garlic prawns, street noodles, octopus, flank steak and crab cakes and paella. Our server was very friendly and made several great recommendations. She came back several times to inquire how we liked everything. The interior is very cozy inside and even with others in the room, you felt like you were the only ones there. Several table mates followed up with the churros for dessert and declared them delicious. I’m already thinking about next time.

Crab Cakes

This dish was served with 5 small crab cakes which were served with crab, red onion, sherry, romesco and pickled root vegetable. The perfect size and taste for our table.

Spanish grilled corn

3 mini cobs of corn with paprika aioli, cilantro, feta cheese and green onion were perfect for sharing

El Sarape

 5836 75th St Ste B
Kenosha, WI

Always wonderful!

El Sarape consistently keeps you coming back with wonderful food, great service in a charming environment. I recently dined here with a party of 10 and everyone absolutely loved their food. The chips and salsa are delicious and refilled quickly as necessary. Most people in our group took advantage of the daily lunch buffet which is top quality, usually a mix of a soup of the day, taco beef and chicken, a fajita of the day, a mole, enchiladas, chimichangas, quesadillas and all the fixings, served with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. A full salad bar is also available. For dessert, they have a fruit chimichanga, cinnamon nacho chips, and fresh fruit. Regular entries are also amazing with full complement of choices.

Service is always outstanding. They recently updated their decor and expanded the restaurant so that more people can enjoy.

La Fuente

 9155 West Blue Mound Road
Milwaukee, WI

Great service and decent food.

I went here on Saturday night with my aunt and cousins, who had been there before. (It was my first time here). Overall, it’s a big place, which was filled with lots of big parties drinking margaritas. The chips and salsa were delicious. Our server was very enthusiastic and attentive, although he did forget to bring out the guacamole we ordered as an appetizer. Since we had already received our entrees, we asked him to take it off the bill rather than bring it out afterwards. My cousin and I ordered the fajitas which were gigantic, served with a side of sour cream and cheese., as well as retried beans and rice. My aunt and other cousin ordered chimichangas. My cousin said that her chimichanga had cheddar cheese instead of queso cheese. As much as I love Mexican food, La Fuente unfortunately didn’t wow me. There just wasn’t a lot of flavor to the fajitas, and they were quite bland. The rice again was lacking in flavor. I’m glad I tried it, but probably wouldn’t return for another visit.

Luigi's Pizza Kitchen & Restaurant

 7531 39th Ave
Kenosha, WI

Every year keeps getting better!

Luigi’s has been in business since 1963 and each year keeps getting better! You can tell that every dish is made with love and care. The family recipes that the Zicarelli family shares have stood the test of time. No one makes a better plate of gnocchi and even the 1/2 orders are plentiful… A 1/2 order of angel hair pasta comes with a gigantic meatball, Italian bread and a salad for less than $10 and makes a great leftover for lunch the next day. Definitely try the stuffed green peppers and their thin crust pizza. Service is top notch and the intimate dining room invites families and friends to linger over a glass of wine and share stories.

Cheese Ravioli, Spaghetti, Lasagna, Pizza, Bomber's, Stuffed Peppers, Mojo's, Fries...

All of these dishes are amazing!

Motor Bar & Restaurant

 401 W Canal St
Milwaukee, WI

Vroom, vroom into Motor for a roaring good time.

Motor is located on the same grounds as the Harley Davidson Museum but you can just come and enjoy the food. They have a nice selection of casual appetizers and pub style food. We had reservations for dinner and it wasn’t too crowded. Our group shared an order of cheese curds which were quickly devoured. Most of our group had sandwiches which were monster sized. I had the BBQ chicken salad which was also a large portion. There is a full size bar with a wide variety of craft brews and specialized drinks. Our server was friendly . In the summer months, they have a nice patio which overlooks the Milwaukee River. If you’re looking for a nice casual space to linger, this is it.

La Casa de Alberto

 624 W National Ave
Milwaukee, WI

A hidden delight!

This place is a hidden gem located on National. Start your meal off with tasty chips and your choice of three salsas-a mix of mild, medium and slightly spicy versions. For lunch they serve ala carte enchiladas and tacos for the crazy low price of $2.50 to $2.75 each. I highly recommend the steak taco served in a double corn tortilla Mexican style with onion and cilantro or you can also get it American style with lettuce, tomato and cheese. Their guacamole is also quite delicious. Service is friendly and attentive. The place is always clean and there is a crowd of regulars here every day. Prices are very reasonable and every time I come here, the place is packed. The margaritas also look amazing, but since I come here on my lunch hour from work, I haven’t imbibed yet.

Ash Milwaukee

 500 West Florida Street
Milwaukee, WI

Flavorful dishes served in a casual environment.

The newly opened Ash in the Iron Horse hotel serves up fresh and flavorful fare. The dining room was cozy and very comfortable. I dined here with a party of six. I started with the cocono mocktail—a mix of coconut, mint and ginger. Very refreshing. There is a small plates menu. I tried the grilled avocado with onion spread, cheddar, bacon, sourdough served with toast points. It was delicious! For my entree, I tried the scallops with miso brown butter. The scallops were tender and very tasty. Between the avocado and scallops, followed by a shared plate of fresh baked cookies, I was stuffed. Both entree and side dishes were more than ample.

The dining room was cozy, but a little loud once the room filled up. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately she was monopolized by one couple and our service was a bit delayed.

Bills were presented in antique cigarette cases, which was a pleasant touch of whimsy.
