After reading the first review on this place I must say that I was excited to try it…..Then I ate there. My wife and I showed up about 6:30 on a Friday night…The true test of a restaurant. We were seated rather promptly which impressed me. Then the waiting began..we were brought some tortilla chips and some tasteless beans and some…well…I think..I am not sure the best way to describe it was a cross between marinara and some sort of chipotle sauce. After our third hellping of chips and dip our waitress finaly showed up…..and we were ready for her. We orderd drinks, appies, and dinner. We ordered the YAYA Roll Steak and Peperjack version. This was pretty good. The steak was well seasond and the flavors all went well together. My wife ordered the steak fajitas for her entree. This again was OK…the seasoning on this almost tasted like packaged taco seasoning…and it was a little heavy in spots…kinda weird. I had the fish taco. I am going to have to disagree that this is the best fish taco in the Portland area. I thought the taco was OK. I would say that this fish taco is on the same scale as a taco DelMar fish taco.
Our overall experience at Cactus YaYa was OK. I would go back again but it is not a place that I would crave. I am going to give this place 3 out of 5 stars. I see that alot of people on this site give almost every place that they review or rate 5 out of 5 stars. This blows me away. I feel that in order to get five stars the food is soo good that it makes me want to go back to the kitchen and perform sexual acts on the chef. This place did not even come close to that. Take care and I hope that this review helps you in your choice in some way.
