No more free cinnamon rolls--bummer

Went back to Ann Sather’s, Lakeview recently & was surprised to see their delicious cinnamon rolls are no longer brought to the table complimentary, but are now considered one of the “sides.” Too bad. The free rolls were charming. There is a parking lot with handicap parking in the back of the building & seating in the vestibule, which is nice for handicapped and/or seniors. Their fantastic location next to the Belmont L stop means weekend brunch is loud & fast paced. Their diverse menu has something for everyone, from eggs benedict, build your own omlets & breakfast wraps, pancakes, waffles, french toast, biscuits & gravy, “sides” like bacon & sausage, fruits & cereals & specials, like French Toast Fantasy, marscarpone filled cinnamon rolls topped with granola & fruit & grilled. Very good, although mine was burned on the top. Coffee is good & refilled regularly, but nothing special. Amenities could use some help — I noticed the floor was dirty, and a bus person was slamming the dirty dishes into the bin as if they were trying to win a contest for noise. Our food was taking a long time, the waiter finally said they lost our tickets & he had to put them back in. Better call the restaurant stakeout guy — lost tickets means tables are not turned over and less profits for restaurant. This family friendly place is the place to go if you want down home comfort food & is one of the few places where you can get a turkey dinner even if it’s not Thanksgiving. Your Swedish grandma will like it because they serve Swedish potato sausage. Baked goods can be bought at the bakery counter on your way out & carryouts are also available. Prices are commensurate for being in Lakeview, i.e., a trendy neighborhood, even if $3.95 for oatmeal is pushing it a little. Sure Denny’s is cheaper, but you have to drive far to find one.

French Toast

French Toast Fantasy – $9.95
Marscarpone-filled cinnamon rolls, battered, grilled and topped with granola and fresh seasonal berries. Very rich & filling. But if you order this, you shouldn’t order the cinnamon rolls as a side unless you plan to take them home.
