Creative, Ingenious, Delicious and Inexpensive!

We learned about 116 by word of mouth and have since eaten there about a dozen times. We can’t seem to get enough of the place. Everything we have eaten there has been nothing less than great.

The chef-owner is uniquely talented when it comes to concocting the things that he prepares. Reading the menu descriptions, I often think, “I would have never thought to combine those ingredients”. And while some of the menu items may appear (even a little) quirky, each and every one we have ordered has been fantastic.

Mussels Romesco, the NC Berkshire Pork Chop, the Chimichurri Tasting Plate, [email protected] and the Spanish Cioppino are among the many selections I would highly recommend.

Brunch is by far the best in Columbia. The chef always amazes us with his ingeniously creative stratas (“crust-less quiches”). Each that we have tried have been delicious and seemingly “light”. You can’t go wrong with the wonderful Sweet Potato Pancakes but I recommend going all the way: Get yourself a Bloody Gazpacho (Bloody Mary in Gazpacho) and order the Chili Rubbed Steak and Eggs with a side order of Three Potato Hashbrowns. You are going to be delighted with the flavors, impressed with the presentation, overwhelmed by the quantity and amazed at the price.

Then there are the pizzas! In addition to some truly creative menu offerings (Cuban Pizza, Greek Pizza), the chef will allow you to basically “build your own” from a generous list of interesting ingredients. He once made us one using mozzarella, smoked gouda, fresh basil and the fruit of a lemon. It was absolutely fantastic!

The only negative about 116 State Street is in reality yet another compliment. Due to its unbridled popularity, there can sometimes be a wait to be seated. Don’t despair! Order one of their signature drinks, a beer or a glass of wine from the host and enjoy the environment. Believe me, it’s worth the wait!
