Hip new Hampden!

As a fairly tough food critic, you will hardly ever catching me attending the same restaurant twice in a month, let alone twice in one week! I had the pleasure of being invited to the soft opening where I was stuffed to the guild with fresh fun food, unlike anywhere else I’ve been in recent months. Seated in a quite corner, I was able to observe the casual elegance that this new hip spot wants to be recognized for. Old church pews & reclaimed wooden doors adorn the walls creating an atmosphere that I would call “rustic modern.” Its certainly like no place else in Baltimore. The huge bar is nestled in the back room, lit up by soft ambiance and friendly faces. Community tables line one wall and you could easily fit 10 of your best friends at each. 20+ craft beers on tap, tons of Maryland features on the list and an ever growing wine menu is only half the fun… because even the liquor is craft only. Sorry, no smirnoff at this establishment. And as fun as that all may be, you still havent met Anna yet. What a sweetheart! Anna hand selected everything i had on my first visit… the Arancini Appetizer, the Arugula and Shaved Fennel Salad, a Warm Harvest Soup, the Orecchiette alla Pepperoncini Pasta, a Duck Duck Goose Pizza, a side of Rosted Cauliflower and Figs… and finally a lovely dish of Pumpkin Panna Cotta with a Toasted pumpkin Seed Brittle. I’ll have you know, I only had a few bites of each so i could try as much as I could handle… and I ate like a king for days! the duck was so sweet and tender, the figs with the cauliflower and honey was just sensational, and the pumpkin panna cotta! oh let me count the ways. Anna treated me to one of the greatest dining experiences I’ve had to date. She was so wonderful, and the food so impeccable, that I immediately booked reservations for myself and my friends to attend that weekend after the Fells Point Festival. Even though we only had beers and pizza upon our second visit, Anna and the staff at Birroteca waited on us hand and foot. It was an incredible evening, top to bottom. Not only were my friends all impressed, but i was at ease the entire evening knowing that we would be guaranteed a fantastic time. For an effortless experience in fine artisan delights and craft beers, go to Birroteca, and be sure to say hi to Anna for me!
