Wee Went Wong's (CLOSED)

 4844 E 22nd St
Tucson, AZ

Worked there 1971

It was the BEST and to this day I still compare recipes to their Chef ‘George’ the very picture of the temperamental Chinese chef that your mind can produce. The fare was both true to American versions of what we thought was Chinese and then beyond, the family, YES, FAMILY decided menu that would ebb and flow with both ideas and what was fresh. Here is a little known fact, Tucson is actually quite close to a sea coast by air miles due southwest in Mexico. Its close reach to the Cortez Sea meant that their menu danced with exoctic dishes including a family sized fish steamed with spices and vegetables then piled on top of rice fried to crispy golden goodness. The Peking Duck, pre-ordered day ahead, IT WAS TO DIE FOR. Back then $25 was a lot but nothing short of San Francisco could you do better. I had it there both locations.
