Sid's
Newport Beach, CA
Gone, but not Forgotten!
Sid’s has been closed for years. Use’d to be one of those great word-of-mouth finds that everyone loves to run across. Some of the BEAT steaks in Orange County for the price, but DO NOY ask for salt!
Gone, but not forgotten!
RIP Sid!
Dishes Tried:
Rib-eye
Tender and cooked just to my liking, seared, medium rare. NO SALT!
Gone, but not forgotten!
Adele's Cafe
San Clemente, CA
Good Homestyle Food, Great Entertainment
In 2007 Adele’s was named the Best Breakfast in San Clemente along with San Clemente’s Best Drink Contest Winner! Adele Lux, was born and raised in San Clemente. She spent 20 years as a waitress in local establishments such as the Sunrise Café. She saved her money and in July of 1998, with $2,000 in the bank, she opened the doors to Adele’s Café in the Old City Plaza in downtown San Clemente. She outgrew that location and in March of 2007 Adele’s Cafe moved to its present location inside the lobby at the San Clemente Inn. She added a small stage and left room for a dance floor so after dinner you can sing and dance `till closing.
From great home style food to steaks and seafood, everything’s great! Definitely go for breakfast (be sure to get some of her killer skillet hash-browns), but be sure to come back for dinner. Reasonable pricing. A fun atmosphere with live music five nights per week. Don’t miss John Solone and the band’s Tribute to Sinatra with Shelly Morgan singing all of your old favorites on Friday’s at 7:00pm. I just got back from Las Vegas where I went to see The Rat Pack and this brought back some of those moments for me. It was a lot of fun.
Dishes Tried:
Fettuccini Alfredo
Very rich and creamy with just the right amount of cheeses. Great!
Mo's Smokehouse
Pismo Beach, CA
SeaVenture Restaurant
Pismo Beach, CA
Nice View, Not so nice prices!!
Situated on the world famous Pismo Beach at the south end of town (3 blocks from the pier), on the top floor of the hotel by the same name is a fairly formal restaurant with some very formal prices. The view is spectular, but the food is pretty much ordinary for restaurants of this type. Everything you would expect, with nothing all that spectacular. Appetizers are $11 – $18. Soup and Salad (not included with dinner) is $8. Dinners are from $19for Pasta to $36 for an 8oz Filet and $52 for a lobster tail with salmon jambalaya and chicken at $25. The only other seafood choices are ahi iat $27 and halibut at $32.
Prety much standard fair at upper end prices. Go for the view and have a couple of pretzels ($3) off of the small plates menu.
Dishes Tried:
Clam Chowder
Good, but definitely not great.
Adele's Cafe

Adeles moved to the San Clemente Inn! Access thru the lobby.

Dishes Tried:
Salmon
Fresh and tender, flavorful with just the right hint of garlic butter so as to enhance but not overpower the wonderful taste of the salmon. Though I am accustomed to open flame, grilled salmon, I have to admit this was a refreshing change. So tender it was hard to keep it on the fork.
Ottavio's Italian Restaurant
Camarillo, CA
Might be a local favorite, but not for me.
I pass Ottavio’s often on my way to the Central Coast and thought it must be good, `cause it’s been around so long. This last time I hit a slow down in traffic in the area, it was nearing dinner time, so I decided to give it a try. Well, it may look Italian, and claim to serve Italian, but it’s not my style of Italian.
I ordered ravioli with marinara sauce and it was terrible (at least for me). the sauce was heavy and loaded with oregano, not basil. The ravioli was thick and cheesy. I prefer the lighter style found in Rome and southern Italy and Ottavio’s didn’t make it.
I’ve since read some of the reviews on this place and it seems to be a hit with the locals (hence, it’s still in business), but it was a mis for me.
Service was so-so.
Dishes Tried:
Ravioli with marinara sauce

21 Oceanfront
Newport Beach, CA
Elegant, but beach casual not allowed
I thought the food was well prepared and well presented. The staff was a bit snooty, certainly not beach casual as is the location of the restaurant. Nor is their dress code. It might appeal to the Newport Beach crowd, but I prefer something a bit more approachable. If I want snooty, I’ll go to LA.
Savannah Steak & Chop House
Laguna Niguel, CA
Consistently Good with a Southern Accent
The Savannah Steak & Chop House is a themed venture from Pacific Restaurant duo John Martin and David Wilhelm. Their first venture was the French 75 in Laguna Beach (another favorite). The Savannah Chop House features steaks, chops, seafood, and a little bit of Southern comfort with a contemporary twist. Try the dry aged steak and regional American dishes with a Southern accent. I prefer dinner in the lounge, if it’s not too crazy. The entertainment is usually great.
Dishes Tried:
Prime Skirt Steak
Well prepared, nice presentation
