Gourmet in Paradise

I’ve been traveling to Maui for 30 years and never miss a dinner at Longhi’s. One of its secrets to success apparently is that its founder, Bob Longhi, is a stickler for seeking out the freshest ingredients. You can definitely taste the difference: locally sourced vegetables, catch of the day straight off that afternoon’s dock, lobsters flown in live from Maine. What prompted this review is my surprise discovery that they’ve just converted the downstairs into Café Longhi’s with a new pizza oven. These are no ordinary pizzas. Recipes must harken back to Mr Longhi’s Venetian roots because it’s the kind of taste bud experience your palate craves back home! Longhi’s has its own pastry chef so the desserts are to die for too. Evangelical foodies should buy his beautifully photographed book “Recipes and Reflections by Maui’s Most Opinionated Restaurateur” where you can pre-plan entrees for your gastronomic expedition to what has got to be the Holy Grail of Maui restaurants.

Fresh Pizza

I had the oven fresh pizza topped with Roasted Duck flavored in spicy hoisin sauce, green onions, imported swiss cheese, cilantro,
finished with thinly diced cucumber…the small version was only $14!
Longhi’s quick and easy new Cafe makes grabbing a gourmet lunch so simple…then back to the beach to laze on the sand dreaming about Chicken Marsala for dinner :)
