Jack Pandi's Whitefish Bay

 1319 E Henry Clay St
Milwaukee, WI

Unique spot, good fish fry

Old home converted to a restaurant. Nice neighborhood and ambience. Not wheelchair accessible due to age but the staff is quite accommodating. We came for fish fry. All types of fish are same price including cod, perch, whitefish and walleye. Comes with two sides, with potato choices and vegetable of the day grouped as one and soup/salad/cloeslaw as another. Hot dinner rolls/applesauce also included.

Reputation for crabby service, but this was mostly not true.

Perch fish fry

Generous portion of perch, good with tartar sauce. Potato pancakes are average and in need of onion. Clam chowder had plenty of “filling” but was a bit too salty..

Good brunch spot

This place was crowded for Saturday brunch, which is a good sign. Had a Chicago feel to it with the prices on the high side. It’s a welcome and appropriate place for kids, but perhaps not an intimate date spot. Service was great.

Would definitely return as the menu has many unique brunch options and daily specials. According to the server, the various crepes are the signature feature. Beverage menu is also diverse. Locally produced food is emphasized.

Scrambled eggs & fresh fruit

For a first-time visit, I made two sides into a meal. Eggs were fresh, local and flavorful. Fruit was a large bowl of bananas, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries.

Good fine dining

Came here with a group for a fish fry. Hostess seated us early. Roomy restaurant on a lake with superior atmosphere. Fish fry is pricey but the options include fried and steamed cod, perch, and walleye. Fries, potato pancakes, potato salad, coleslaw, bread and applesauce all served family style.

Menu includes steaks, pork chops chicken and other seafood options. Service is excellent.

Fish Fry

Ordered the perch. Pieces were large for perch. Fries were crispy and the potato pancakes were German style with onion and very good. Potato salad was average and the coleslaw wasn’t creamy.

Good meal in a loud environment

Came with a large group for a fish fry. It was later in the evening and the place was packed. It only grew busier as live music was featured. They were short a bartender and wait staff for the crowd, so the owner came in. They did a good job of getting our tables ready early and overall did the best they could for our group of close to 20. Coleslaw and applesauce did run out, so not everyone got the full meal.

fish fry

Tried the baked cod. They have different flavoring options including zesty, Cajun and lemon pepper. I chose lemon pepper and it was the best baked I’ve had. Three pieces for the same price as fried… Potato pancakes are homemade with perfect seasoning.

Good fine dining

Been here many times. Good dinners, sandwiches and fish fry. Breakfast food is amazing. Plenty of space inside, but it’s so popular there is sometimes a wait. The only knock: Many will find it pricey.

Cod fish fry

Had cod on this night. Three pieces- very good. Potato pancakes also excellent. The best part is the excellent clam chowder is included. Coleslaw is creamy, and rye bread and applesauce included.

Come for the food, put up with the service

This place is usually busy, which is good. There was a 10-minute wait for the dining room. No problem. We were shown to a table (or so we thought) after that. There was obviously a staff miscommunication as no tables were open. We waited a few more minutes before a few gracious patrons who had finished eating offered their spot. They told the hostess who cleaned up the table.

Ten to 12 minutes later we had our drinks, which consisted of a beer, soda and water. Server did apologize for the wait and the food came out fast. More on that below.

Cod fish fry

Cod was a three piece portion, which was enough. An additional piece can be bought. Pancakes $1.50 extra for two. Good but not great. Rye bread was buttered and the coleslaw sour.

Good meal- hope it stays around

I’ve been for burgers which are good, but on this visit for fish fry. Had cod, potato pancakes, coleslaw and rye bread. It was good all around but not spectacular, and that’s fine considering it’s a burger joint. Next time I try the bluegill special. Service was efficient. I don’t drink beer but the selection is extensive.

Cod fish fry

Fish was three large pieces and solid. Potato pancakes may disappoint those who prefer thinner German style, but I liked them. Coleslaw was creamy. Rye bread could have been bigger.

9Th Slice Pizza Co

Great pizza and service

Finally tried this joint after several months and will be back many times. Ovens are super hot so the pizza is done in about 5-7 minutes. Plenty of house selected pizzas, but also a wide variety of meats, cheeses are sauces to build your own. Several sizes of pizza, but even the personal size could feed 2-3 kids. Crust is not cracker thin (would like to see that option added) but thinner than most had-tossed pizzas and not black.

Plenty of tables inside with TVs. Good drink options too. The 9th slice is a free warm chocolate chip cookie that is worth saving room for.

St. Louie

Zesty red sauce, mozzarella, sausage, additional white cheese. I held the jalepeno peppers. Everything blends perfectly, good amount of each topping.

Matty's Bar & Grille

 14460 W College Ave
New Berlin, WI

A hidden gem

This is a place worth visiting again and again. I had been there before for several combinations of build your own burger, which never disappoints. Sides are very good and the corn chowder is a winner. On this day it was Sunday brunch time- more on that below.

The bar has ample space and plenty of TVs. The outdoor patio is good for a large group or private dinner and has a fire pit to bring warmth on fall nights. A free cookie is given at weekday lunch. The only knock is the cramped restrooms.

Corned Beef Skillet

As with most skillets, eggs, potatoes, onions and peppers are included. Best corned beef hash ever- smoked to perfection and sliced not diced. Ton of food and worth it.

Pat's Oak Manor

small town joint is ho hum

I came with a fish fry group, so we all had those. Fried cod and perch on the menu, with shrimp also available. Comes with fries or potato pancakes and coleslaw and rye bread.

This is a restaurant and bar that seats fish fries in its banquet hall. It was loud and a small musical act featuring a keyboard player. This made it tough to talk while it lasted.

Cod fish fry

Good fish, potato pancakes OK but had a bit of an egg taste. Coleslaw and bread nothing special.
