Got a "food for every mood"

Theatrical, bit off wall in philosophies, keep busy, time “flies”. Live/ travel in 42 ft diesel motorhome, see reviews from “all over”, Florida, NC, Virginia, Texas and “who knows where.” Like to go back, give places another chance, update reviews.

Not Bad

Sports bar with tv’s along the ceilings, lots and lots of tvs, a bit much for us “old folks” but fine for sportsters. Parking a little iffy, had there been more customers, we’d have had quite a walk in the shopping center.
Went to try because of national ad on TV (special burger/fries for about $6). Didn’t catch the part about ‘only on Mondays’ – went on “wrong” day and paid full price (about $13 each). A few weeks later, we tried it on a Monday for the special, could tell that was ‘seniors’ oriented, folks gathering for bingo and burgers. We were leaving as they were coming in, it’s nice for group like that . Anyway, both trips the meals were good (psychologically better at the lower price :) – service was fine. Second trip with all those TVs sound down was a relief for us. Nice enough place for what it is. (sports bar/pub).

Build Your Own Burger

Was good size, they fixed it right for both of us (one with “toppings on top” of the meat, not underneath where the lettuce & tomato would get “cooked” by the heat, and the other with toppings on the side.

Keke's Breakfast Cafe

Great Place

This restaurant I’m pretty sure replaced a Mexican restaurant that closed up some time ago. The place was totally remodeled and the layout of the restaurant is cheerful, bright and very clean. It’s a pretty nice spot in a retail plaza area on South Florida, near where Polk Parkway goes across, and should be a good draw for breakfasts and lunch business.
The staff welcomed us warmly, we were seated comfortably and served with no problems. We had heard the breakfasts with waffles, pancakes, omelets and all are really good, but we went with the lunch menu. It was a pleasant experience and hope to return to give the breakfast items a try.

Turkey Burger

My turkey burger was on ciabatta bread, toasted – delicious.
His was on regular bun, it was good too. choice of toppings-both had lettuce/tom/mayo

I had regular fries, he had sweet potato fries. They were good too.

you can “add an egg” to any sandwich/burger etc, but I’ve not gotten that “cosmopolitan” yet.

We saw other dishes being served, wraps, salads and all – everything looked good.

Mexican Style Quick & Good

You really don’t have to drive far in any direction in Florida to find Mexican style restaurants. Some good – some not so much. We’ve found 4 or 5 in about a 25 mile radius (so far) of our location half way between Tampa and Orlando near Lakeland and Winter Haven that are in the “pretty good” category . This one is a bit of a drive for us to Winter Haven, then out Cypress Gardens Blvd. about halfway to Hwy. 27, but it was OK for “quick and good” and looking for step up from Taco Bell. We were out and about anyway. It has a casual atmosphere and bright décor. They advertise “all fresh”, – made to order, no microwaves, etc. It’s in the LEGOLAND area and I’d say it should be particularly nice as a place to take the kids. Service was good. No complaints.

Tijana burritos

flour tortillas with double meat/cheese (mega) – you pick your toppings
made it a meal with rice, beans and drink

it hit the spot

Tostadas

corn tortillas with beans/lettuce/tom/cheese/salsa etc…

Turkish Delight

Not being a world traveler or expert in geography, I’m guessing that “Turkish” and “Greek” have some similarities. This neat little restaurant on S. Florida Ave., just a little past Lings, is advertised as “Turkish” – and the menu is full of words I’ve found in Greek oriented menus (Moussaka, Baklava etc) that I’ve enjoyed sampling over the years.
Others had told me it reminds them of nice European cafes and that intrigued me. It is a quaint, comfortable place and the owners and staff seem to care about the customers – good service and delightful dishes to try.

Chicken Kebob

the marinated chicken chunks with rice/veggies was delicious.

Baklava

Great baklava!

Scarpa's Italian

 1831 E Edgewood Dr
Lakeland, FL

Great Place

There is nothing wrong with chains except in general they all taste pretty much “alike” – you order something and figure it will taste just like it does at other locations – that can be good, if that is the mood you are in and the taste you are seeking. However, it can be a great feeling finding a place to dine that is definitely “not” a chain, has hometown flavor and it’s own form of “classiness” – that describes Scarpa’s, a neat restaurant on Edgewood. Not overwhelming from the outside, but inside has pleasant atmosphere – comfortable, you feel welcome by the friendly staff – the service excellent and the food very good. Family owned and
operated and really nice place.

Veal Cannellonii

wonderful pasta stuffed with ground veal and spinach in a tasty cream sauce!

Lasagna

Husband enjoyed this with great layers, cheese – sauce – and choice of meatballs or sausage – he had the meatballs.

Mixed Green Salad

We both had the mixed green salads, with walnuts. very good.

Lovely Experience

Everywhere I go in Charlotte, it’s impossible to stifle the urge to comment on the changes. Some are depressing. Having worked for several years at the corner of Morehead and Kenilworth and later down the street at Kings Drive, the area was well known to me. The choice of restaurants was limited to The Cove and several others. Now it’s spilling over with choices. This one around and down the street toward the original Charlottetown Mall turned out to be an excellent spot for some “good Italian” – They said it has been there since 1992 which was a bit after my time, but I’m happy to have found it and enjoyed the current pleasures of the place. Pleasant ambiance, good smells hit you at the door – excellent service and the food delightful. Overall fine experience. Change can be very good.

Lasagna

We both had this …wonderful layers, 3 cheeses, sauce, veal – sausage terrific!

small Mama’s Salad – crisp and fresh

Hazelnuts Creperie

Crepe's Galore!

The changes in and around “uptown” Charlotte never cease to amaze me. Long ago, Kress’s 5 and Dime and Woolworths were
about “it” for your dining pleasure in this area…the years have flown by and lots of wonderful spots have come and gone- like this little place in the heart of the city at the square. I hope it stays! It’s not real big, more on the lines of cozy/simple – but the service was good and the crepe’s were excellent. There was a time when I had “never tasted a crepe”, but, I’m happy to say I can really appreciate what Hazelnut’s has to offer!

Santorini

Delightful – eggs, spinach, onion, olive, feta cheese all worked well together!
So many choices to try – this was a good one!

Brio Italian Grille

Lovely

This is another example of “fine dining” in the Charlotte Southpark section – Park Road/Fairview area. Years ago, the few restaurants in the mall were about the best you could do – now, every street weaving through the general locale where Celanese once “ruled” has hidden dining treasures waiting to be discovered. Brio is a lovely spot, the free valet parking was a plus. The interior is comfortable, charming and gives off an “upper middle class soothing vibe.” The wait staff is attentive, fast on their feet and the service not lacking at all. Very enjoyable experience, a little pricey
but the results for us well worth it.

Brio Chopped Salad

Great salad – Greek oriented, olives/tomatoes, cukes, feta and all.

Lasagna Bolognese Al forno

Wonderful – baked, layers — cheeses/sauce filled my mouth with delightful flavor!

Crab & SHrimp Cakes

Husband said it’s OK, not quite his taste but not bad.

Toast of Dilworth

Toast is Tasty!

This is a neat place on Park Road. Plenty of room for inside seating as well as outside when nice weather. Inside is well lighted and cheerful, sort of a “wake me up” breakfast place. There were so many things on menu I wanted to try for breakfast, and I got a peek at the lunch menu as well. Definitely want to go back for tastes of lunchtime! The staff is friendly, service real good and the
food was excellent. As I said, difficult to decide – but what I had was so good, will make every effort to get back and try more!

Eggs Benedict

two poached/Canadian bacon/English muffin-hollandaise sauce.
Husband enjoyed.

Florentine

two poached, spinach, English muffin-hollandaise sauce. delicious.

Salsas Mexican Grille

 2015 Ayrsley Town Blvd
Charlotte, NC

Mexican Delight

There are lots of neat places hidden away around the Charlotte area – this one you can get to down Hwy 49 going toward the river.
If you pass Westinghouse Blvd., you’ve gone too far. This area has grown up with residential and business expansion as well as being not far from Carowinds. I’m sure I saw a hotel a short distance from the restaurant, so it’s a convenient spot for the location. The service was excellent and no complaints on the food. Overall a pleasant experience.

Carmelita's Burrito

Flour tortilla/Burrito – shredded chicken – salsa, cheese, lettuce, tomato – with rice and beans – husband enjoyed this.

Huevos Rancheros

Ok I get in a rut, but no two places fix this dish to “taste alike”…
this one with 3 eggs and what they call “Colorado Sauce” – and the usual beans, rice, salsa, cheese and all was particularly tasty – a little extra “kick” to that sauce!
