Spice Island Tea House

Not bad for a hole in the wall

When I lived in Oakland during my college days (last year, haha), I frequented this place on a number of occasions. It is a nice little dimly lit place with a very uniqe atmosphere. The tables are pretty close together, which provides an intimate dining experience. This intimacy factor combined with the warmth of the oriental wait staff makes this a truly authentic and enjoyable eating experience. They have a very vast selection, an entire menu actually, of a variety of different teas which probably originate from the mother land, I’m sure (I think there is Thai, Malaysian, and Cambodian influence on the food if I remember correctly). The food itself is good and cheap, and a relatively full menu will make it difficult to decide what dish to order. I’ve tried a number of their dishes without having one I disliked yet, but as far what I actually ordered here, I cannot exactly recall (Will have to revisit). Anyway, give this place a shot if you’re ever on Atwood Street in South Oakland. You will certainly be a fan after the first taste!
