Blue Bat Kitchen and Tequilaria

 249 North Water Street
Milwaukee, WI

Blue Bat Kitchen and Tequilaria

This is a large restaurant, with 2 floors. There is a bar on both levels. The restaurant overlooks the river so in warm weather you can sit outside. Went here for Sunday brunch. Although it was busy, we were seated in an area where we were able to comfortably talk without noise from the rest of the restaurant. Very nice presentation of entrees. Several dishes are served in bowls which is a nice touch. One thing that could be improved upon is their coffee. Coffee is so important for brunch. The server told me that the coffee is not a local roaster. Milwaukee has some very good coffee roasters. Blue Bat Kitchen could improve their coffee by using a local roaster.

Bao Benedict

I ordered Bao benedict…… It was a dish of ginger soy glazed pork belly, spinach, scallion, sesame, topped with 2 eggs of my choice and a light kimchi creme.

Tofte's Table

 331 Riverfront Plaza
Waukesha, WI

Tofte's Table

This is my newest favorite restaurant! We were seated at a window table which was great for people watching. Most of the alcoholic beverages are made in Wisconsin. Several food items on the menu were gluten free. And those that weren’t could be made gluten free at your request. The waiter encouraged us to order small plates to share. But some at our table had allergies. So it was no problem ordering separate meals. Several items were large enough to eat as individual entrees.

Braised Pork Belly

I asked our server about the pork belly and he highly recommended it. It was delicious, a melt in your mouth experience.

Wild Mushroom Risotto

This was a small plate or appetizer. Served in a crock with a healthy portion for sharing. Very creamy with lots of mushrooms, with a mild yet satisfying cheesy taste.

Double B's BBQ

West Allis, WI

Double B's BBQ

I ordered the pulled pork plate, which is served with coleslaw, cornbread, and your choice of side. The pulled pork was very tender and the portion was generous. On the table there were 4 different sauces to choose from to drizzle on the pork. Sauces ranged from mild and vinegary to super hot. Their cornbread was so moist that you didn’t need any butter. The only disappointment was with the side dish, which was brussel sprouts. I did not like how it was prepared. They were overcooked and very mushy. They had a vinegary taste, similar to collard greens. I’ve had their brussel sprouts in the past when they were cooked but firm and topped with bacon. Those were delicious.

Smoked Bacon Balls

Delicious appetizer! Smoked meatballs wrapped in bacon, with sauce on the side.

Tess

 2499 N Bartlett Ave
Milwaukee, WI

dinner at Tess

Tess is located in a quiet residential area off of Oakland Ave., on the east side of Milwaukee. They have a very nice outdoor patio in the back. Most of the tables are in the open air, which is delightful place to eat on a warm summer night. But there was a chill in the air the night I ate there, so we sat in the heated section of the patio that also had an awning over our head. We had the best of both worlds, eating outdoors on a chilly evening, but staying warm and covered.

Blackened Baja Seabass

The blackened seabass was delicious. It was served with GINGER PEACH CHUTNEY – FARMER’S MARKET VEGETABLESWILD MUSHROOMSNUESKES SMOKED BACONMANCHEGO POTATO CAKE

Aspen coffee

I had the Aspen Coffee drink as my dessert. It was made with a few liqueurs, including Bailey’s Irish cream. It was an ideal way to end a great meal.

the cheel

Dinner at Cheel

The Cheel serves unique & delicious Nepali cuisine. They added an enclosed patio since the last time I was here. I enjoyed dining in the patio, and the patio chairs were very comfortable. Boar was the most unique item that I tried from the menu. It was delicious! And is served in a couple of dishes. If you try it, you won’t be disappointed. There are very distinct sauces on the menu that are made from several spices. And If you like Lentil soup, the dal bhat is a real treat.

Nepali thali

This is a traditional Nepali dinner including a selection of various dishes: 1 of the dishes was boar. It was very tender and melted in my mouth.

Char'd

Lunch at Char'd

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at Char’d in the Third Ward. This is a Korean-fusion restaurant. One thing that that the restaurant could improve upon is outdoor signage. Even though I knew where it was located, there wasn’t any clearly visible signage on the building with the restaurant’s name. Some people initially drove past the restaurant, missing it completely.

My lunch consisted of Kimchi Pork. This was a piping hot skillet with thin-sliced pork, rice, kimchi, onions, tofu, greens, & a sunny-side up egg. It was a delicious blend of flavors. And it was served with just the right portion of food.

My beverage was the Galaxy Lemonade. It was a mixture of fresh squeezed lemonade, topped with a purple tea that created a unique & refreshing two-toned concoction.

I dined with 3 others. Two ordered the bulgogi bowl & 1 ordered the cha shu ramen. All of us thought the food was delicious.

The staff was very courteous and attentive. I especially liked that the restaurant allowed separate checks for me & my friends.

I will definitely be back to Char’d.

Kindred Restaurant

 2535 S Kinnickinnic Ave
Milwaukee, WI

Brunch at Kindred

Enjoyed a very delicious brunch at Kindred. It is located on the 1st floor of a quaint, old cream city brick building in Bay View. The upper floors are apts for Airbnb rentals. If it wasn’t so hot outside, I would have liked to dine on the outside patio, overlooking Kinnickinnic Ave.

There were 6 in my party. We were seated at a round table, which made it extremely easy for everyone to participate in casual conversation. I especially liked that our server offered to provide separate checks for each of us, even though the restaurant generally limits separate checks to 4 per group.

Everyone was pleased with their entree. Three of us had the mushroom omelette. The others had avocado toast, salmon benedict (with home made biscuit), and johnny cakes & gravy.

mushroom omelette

My mushroom omelette was delicious. It was fluffy & moist. It was filled with mushrooms, dried tomatoes, & sauteed onions. It was accompanied with a side of fresh greens. And a small dollop of sour cream topped the omelette.

Oak Barrel Public House

1033 North Old World 3rd Street
Milwaukee, WI

Brunch at Oak Barrel Public House

Had a great table which was just inside the restaurant, right next to the open floor-to-ceiling window facing Old World 3rd St. It was a pleasant summer afternoon. And we were able to enjoy a relaxing brunch. while also enjoying the sites and sounds of the street activity.

Summer time skillet

The skillet was good, but the hash browns were in the shape of balls. I prefer my hash browns flat and very crispy.
