IHOP

 1230 N 51st Ave
Phoenix, AZ

Fantastic Food for a hangover.

After spending the night at a series of bars with friends who had come into town that day, the last thing I wanted to do was cook breakfast for all of us after we got home. Instead we got a cab to the nearest IHOP and got some lovely choc. chip pancakes with our breakfast samplers. Everything was delivered promptly and politely and we certainly appreciated the coffee. The food itself was s\delicious, nothing is better than bacon and syrup in the same meal. I look forward to returning for some br-inner sometime soon.

Subway

Busy and Delicious.

It took forever to get the the counter at this Subway, When i finally got the the counter, the meatball marinara was toasted exactly the way i like it and they even put chipotle southwest on the bread for me as i prefer it to the sauce on the meatballs. The staff were very helpful and the freshly baked m & m cookie i bought was still warm and gooey – just a shame subway dont sell milk to dip it in!

Quiznos Sub

 102 N Central Ave
Phoenix, AZ

A classic.

Everybody loves a Quizno’s Sub, and as a sub fan i was delighted to find that the outlet would deliver direct to the office. I had my usual cheesesteak which arrived in a neat box that kept the sandwich very warm. Toasted to perfection, the only problem was the long wait time for the sub.

101 Bistro

 101 N 1st Ave
Phoenix, AZ

Cheap, nice meal in a proper restaurant.

Its nice to be able to seat yourself and still get attentive service. We chose to sit by the window and ordered some wine. The wine was corked and the restaurant replaced it quickly and without question. The replacement wine was agreeable and our soup was a fantastic light lunch after a long morning of client meetings. I will certainly return to 101 in the future to enjoy a full meal!

Starbucks Coffee

Love the Seattle Roast.

I stop in to the Starbucks for a croissant and a Hazelnut Double Shot Mocha with Cream most mornings, its a very nice cup of coffee and the queues at this branch are usually very reasonable, the croissant is always great but the baristas there seem to have some obsession with making me drink almond syrup because they frequently give me a Almond Double Shot instead.

Applebee's

Great Birthday Fun!

Applebees is my (now) 12 year old’s favorite restaurant so, like every year, we went there for his family birthday meal. We started (as usual) with 2 sharing appetizer platters between the 4 of us which is always delicious but this time came with a spinach and artichoke dip that i had never seen before (it went well with the quesadilla). The service was fast and polite as usual and the main course (a salad for my wife, a 12oz NY Strip for me, nuggets for my daughter and baby back ribs for my son) was equally delicious. The deserts are always the highlight of applebees my key lime pie was fantastic, my wife’s sundae was stellar and the kids’ oreo sundaes are the reason we go each year. Great family fun. The only bad point was that my son didn’t get the birthday special because we ate on the weekend before his special day, this was annoying and caused a small argument between me and a waiter (my son didn’t seem to mind the absence of a song though).

Villa Pizza

Fantastic Stromboli.

When i arrived at villa pizza on my way home from work, it was very busy (i didnt appreciate why until later). When i eventually reached the counter (there ought to be more than one teller) i ordered my favorite : stuffed stromboli bread. This was absolutely delicious! I have been back many times since to grab some bread or pizza. The pizza is also fantastic with great cheese and a delicious sauce paired with a slightly greasy yet very tasty base. This restaurant is a must visit for any pizza fan.

District: American Kitchen and Wine Bar

 320 N 3rd St
Phoenix, AZ

End of a quest

My GPS couldn’t find District, a colleague of mine decided to meet me there for dinner to welcome me to the town so I jumped in the car and eventually had to resort to a google search to find the address. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly and, as I needed to get home to wait for a cable guy, we decided to just have the one course. My steak was delivered far to quickly and was very overcooked while my colleague did not recieve his meal at all. In the end, we decided to head back, refusing to pay for anything except the wine (which was absolutely wonderful). On a less busy day I imagine that the restaurant is lovely but I would avoid it when it’s busy.

Steak

Overpriced and overcooked.

Blimpie Subs & Sandwiches

Best subs in Phoenix

I love sub sandwiches but ever since the local Subway became really busy i’ve been lookin for a new place to buy the occasional meatball sub that tastes good and fresh. I ordered a 12" sub and waited while it was made in front of me (a very nice touch). The sub sauce was delicious and the meatballs were nice and tender. The bread was well toasted but for some reason, they dont sell fries to go with the sub which is a definite negative part of the restaurant. But after all, it wasn’t a disaster of epic proportions. It was almost… the perfect sub.

Meatball Sub

Delicious sub that was well worth the drive into New Village even if there was roadworks on the way.

Charley's Grilled Subs

 4250 W Anthem Way
Phoenix, AZ

Fine family fun, shame about the bread.

I visited this restaurant with my kids who miss the cheesesteaks that we had back in Philidelphia because a friend had told me that the closest local thing to a proper philly steak was to be found at Charley’s. All three of us opted for the three cheesesteak which was almost as good as home except for the stale bread (which the employee replaced after we complained). The best part of the restaurant was definitely the cheddar, ranch and bacon fries which were absolutely delicious and came in an old fashioned “fry boat”. In conclusion, a great stop for the homesick philidelphian as long as you go before the bread goes stale!
