Guido's Pizza of Ravenna

 214 W Main St
Ravenna, OH

meh

Mediocre food, tiny, loud dining room, and somewhat high prices. I’ve had pasta and sandwiches there, which were pretty good. Long line, which befuddles me since the place is so average, at best. Locals seem to love it, but there aren’t too many non-chain options in town.

The first time I had the pizza it was okay, and the second time it was disgusting! Super greasy – grease on top of the cheese (which was over-browned), grease left pooling on the paper under the pizza. The “sausage” was merely a dusting of some very finely crumbled meat that may have been sausage – hard to tell since there was so little of it. Pepperoni? Yeah, there were a few slices. This may be nitpicking, but cutting a round pizza in a grid pattern, as if it were a square pizza, seems very odd, and leaves some pieces without edge crust, which is the best part of a Guido’s pizza. Also got jojo potatoes with this pizza, and they were even worse – looked a bit burned, tasted like they were made last week and recooked today.

I never ask for refunds for anything, I vote with my feet, but this was such a disappointment for $17 that I called them back. The gentleman who I spoke was very defensive, seemed offended, and insisted that I bring the food back if I wanted a refund. What else would I have done since it was inedible? They did refund my money though, without further incident, and the nice girl at the counter was sympathetic and agreed with me. Will try again some time, but when I am not trying to feed friends, and not for a while. Advice: stick to the fried chicken, pasta or sandwiches, they are tasty. Or try the other Italian carry-out joint in town, a mile down the road to the East.

Carry-out, 45 minutes on a Friday night, plus 10-minute wait in line – acceptable. Not the worst I’ve ever had, but pretty close. First try, months ago, was okay. This time, over-done cheese, severe lack of toppings, grease, grease, and more grease pooling in box and covering cheese. Good crust, but cut so some pieces didn’t even get any edge crust, and uneven. What a travesty! Looked like it was made by a rushed, unsupervised 15 year-old. Hate to say it, because I like mom and pop-type pizza shops, but an $8 pie from Domino’s would have been better.
