My boyfriend and I got a $50 gift card to the Sawmill so we decided to go.
The service was friendly… I have to give it that. We sat down and ordered some drinks to start while we looked over the menu. I wasn’t too impressed with the menu to say in the least. Everything on there is way overpriced for what they offer and there really wasn’t much variety in way of a supper menu. We both knew the $50 wouldn’t cover everything eventhough we ordered dishes that were less expensive than most.
We ordered the calimari to start and I have to say it was quite good. The calimari wasn’t too battered and it came piping hot.
Then the mains came… I ordered a Beef Dip Sanwich and my boyfriend ordered a burger. My beef dip was absolutely tasteless… the beef was not seasoned at all and the sauce that came with it was tasteless as well. I enjoyed my 2 scoops of garlic mashed potatoes more than I did the sandwich.
My boyfriend’s meal didn’t turn out with much luck either. The fries were good and hot. Although the burger tasted like it had been left on the grill for a couple of minutes too long and left a charred and burnt taste in your mouth. Not to mention, the pattie was hard and probably came from the freezer.
If a restaurant wants to limit their menu to a few good “sigantaure” things that they make, like the Sawmill seems to do with steaks and burgers, then make sure they’re done right so people don’t feel ripped off in the end, knowing they paid for crappy overpriced food like we did.
