Have fork, will eat!

Wonderful diner

Went to Wonderland for weekend brunch on a Saturday. The place was packed, which to me, is always a good sign. Since I was dining alone, I was seated at the counter. It reminded me of a diner, with the counter and tables and booths. The gentleman sitting next to me even mentioned that he was working his way through the different selections of pies. I was there for brunch, so I opted for a mimosa and the eggs benedict. The eggs benedict came with a side of hashbrowns. There was no skimping on food, as everything that I saw coming out of the kitchen had a full plate of food. My brunch came out hot, and the service was great. I will definitely go back to try other menu items, including lunch and perhaps dinner.

Eggs Benedict

Eggs benedict with pulled ham and bearnaise, came with a side of hashbrowns. There was no skimping on the pulled ham and while the bearnaise sauce was very good, I’m still a fan of traditional hollandaise. Tons of hashbrowns. Very good dish!

414 Bar + Kitchen

 503 North Plankinton Avenue
Milwaukee, WI

Hotel Restaurant

A group of fellow diners decided to try out the new 414 Bar + Kitchen located inside the Cambria Hotel. I stopped at the bar first and chatted with the bartender who turned out to be our server as well. The drink menu had some Milwaukee related names as I opted for the Bronze Fonz Mule. The dining area was small, and they didn’t take reservations. I was a bit worried, but our server mentioned that we were the only group so far that was dining there that wasn’t actually staying at the restaurant. The décor was very modern and eclectic. Even though our server was handling the bar and the restaurant, it didn’t take away from our service. The food came out of the kitchen hot and at a good pace. The food was good.

Iceburg Slice Salad

Salad came with tomato, egg, bacon, grape, scallion, bleu cheese, balsamic vinaigrette. The salad was more than a slice, but rather half a head of lettuce. Good combination.

Smothered Angus Beef Sliders

short rib, cheddar cheese, white onion, horseradish aioli, pickle chips – came with fries, but only 2 sliders. Thought it was a bit pricey for 2 sliders. Good, but not oustanding.

The Horse & Plow

 419 Highland Drive
Kohler, WI

Cosy with History

The Horse & Plow is one of the restaurants in Kohler’s American Club. It’s a casual brew pub with attentive staff and very friendly service. The atmosphere is cozy and historic. The tabletops are even made from the original American Club bowling alley. There is the restaurant as well as a lounge area with TVs and a fireplace. My family dined in the regular restaurant area for lunch. The menu selection was great, with something for everyone, including bento boxes for kids. My parents ordered the nachos, which were huge! They could barely finish them. I opted for the bourbon apple chicken panini with sweet potato fries, which did not disappoint. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food came out of the kitchen hot. I will definitely go back to try other menu items.

Oven-roasted chicken breast, bourbon apple aioli, bacon, Brie cheese, arugula, ciabatta roll – ordered with sweet potato fries. Chicken was tender and the fixings were excellent. The fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Ceviche Tapas Bar & Restaurant

Tapas Tuesday

Went to Ceviche on a Tuesday evening for their Tapas Tuesday special. There were three in our party and when we got there, the restaurant wasn’t very busy. However, as the evening went on, the place was packed! They had sangria for $6, and all of the tapas ranged in price from $3-$10. There were about 15 different tapas to choose from. Our server did a great job in explaining the dishes to us, as they were true Spanish tapas. He even had us pronounce them as we ordered them, for a little fun! We ended up ordering 9 different dishes to split between the three of us. All came out of the kitchen hot and were all full of spice and flavorful. We still had room for dessert. It was a good find!

Red Mesa Cantina

 128 3rd St S
St Petersburg, FL

Great Courtyard

I was on a business trip in St. Petersburg and went to Red Mesa Cantina per a recommendation. I opted to sit outside in the courtyard as it was lovely! There was a fountain and a waterway running through the middle. Lots of tables and umbrellas. The menu had a great selection. I ordered a margarita and was very surprised at how large it was! (No disappointment there!). I ordered some guacamole to start and the chips that came with it were very fresh. There were about 10 different kinds of tacos to choose from which made it a little tough to actually choose, as they all sounded fantastic! I ended up with three different ones, baja fish, shrimp and duck. The presentation was beautiful and they tasted even better! Service was great as well!

Sea Salt

St Petersburg, FL

Sea Salt adds flavor

I was in St. Petersburg for a business trip and decided to head to Sea Salt for dinner, based upon a recommendation. I didn’t have a chance to look around the inside as I opted to dine outside. The restaurant was running a pre-fix summer special which included an appetizer, main and dessert. Considering the restaurant to be a seafood place, the price was a steal! The meal came with a sampling of 3 different sea salts to accompany the food. Each was a different flavor, texture and color, and enhanced the food experience. I had a caprese salad, salmon, and for gelato for dessert. When my dessert was brought out, my server also brought out a large serving of fresh cotton candy, which he said was complimentary. All of the food was very flavorful, and good portion size. If I travel there again, would like to go back.

Ash Milwaukee

 500 West Florida Street
Milwaukee, WI

Wood fired fare

Went to the new restaurant, Ash, in the Iron Horse Hotel. There was a group of six of us and the evening did not disappoint. The ambiance was great, as there was actually an open wood fire in which some of the dishes were cooked. Our server was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions, as well as being very pleasant. The menu had a nice assortment from small plates, to mains, to veggies, to dinners for two. I opted for the beet tartare and the scallops. Both were picture perfect as well as delicious. The only thing to mention is that due to the open fire, the dining room was very warm. Our bills came in cute little cigarette cases which was a cute touch. Yop notch and will definitely go back!

Scallops with miso brown butter

The scallops were large, perfect sear and melted in your mouth!

Beet tartare

This was picture perfect! The beets were diced and came with a side of thin crackers. Delicious!

The Precinct Tap + Table

Cool vibe, great food

Went to The Precinct Tap & Table with a group of fellow diners. The first thing to note is the cool vibe of the restaurant. There is a bar, a separate counter seating that looks into the kitchen, booths and tables. The lighting is the star! They also have big garage doors that must open up with the nicer weather. The menu had such a great selection that it was very hard to decide what to have. I ended up getting the pickled watermelon rinds and a pasta dish. Our server was fantastic, as she was so patient with our table of 6 and answered all of our questions and offered up suggestions as well. I will definitely go back as the food was great and I want to try more!

Evie's Bistro

 n89w16851 Appleton Avenue
Menomonee Falls, WI

Great addition to the Falls

Went to Evie’s Bistro for lunch with a coworker. I was pleasantly surprised with the warm atmosphere. There is a lot of wood décor, yet it feels inviting. The service was great. The lunch menu had just enough to select from without being too overwhelming. I opted for the rice bowl with shrimp. I was happy that the shrimp was the same price as the other meat options. The bowl was very fresh and flavorful and came with a side of yum-yum sauce. I will definitely go back for dinner to try some other dishes.

KIN by Rice n Roll SUSHI BAR

 7484 West State Street
Wauwatosa, WI

Great Sushi

Went to Kin by Rice n Roll with a friend for dinner. The restaurant has a warm and inviting décor with a friendly staff. The menu has a mix of sushi and Asian dishes, so it was hard to make a selection for dinner, as everything sounded so great! All of the food came out of the kitchen at a nice pace with beautiful plate presentation. We ordered the salmon ceviche, the honey glazed duck buns, a teriyaki chicken bowl and a clumsy Bueno roll. I would have to say that everything we ordered was excellent, and I would definitely go back!

Salmon Ceviche

This was like a deconstucted ceviche with large salmon stacked sideways with great flavore.

Honey Glazed Duck Buns

The duck was so flavorful with the mix of spices and hint of sweet. The buns were so soft!

Clumsy Bueno Roll

Shrimp tempura, avocado, spicy crab, tempura flake, unagi sauce, spicy mayo – my new favorite roll!
