Kaow Thai Cuisine
Beaverton, OR
Great Thai Food in the Burbs
The first time I went here I tried tempura with a friend. My dinner was the yellow curry. Service was good and the place had a nice atmoshpere to it. Must be the fish tanks or wall decor but I like eating here. Prices are pretty reasonable as well. They have a lunch special for $5.95 you can get on the weekday. It’s located in the strip mall right across from New Seasons so be sure and stop by if you’re looking for good Thai food.
Dishes Tried:
Red Curry
Have tried two of the curry items and both were good. Other favorites include the spicy eggplant and vegetable tempura. I ordered the latter on two occasions and it was not greasy compared to alot of other places.

Harvest Fresh Grocery & Deli
Mcminnville, OR
Healthy Food out in Yamhill County!
I’ve been going to this store for years even before they had the downtown location. I added this place for anyone in the area that needs a recommendation for some vegan/vegetarian food. Their deli offers a good selection of soups and sandwiches. FYI, the vegan soup changes each day and is usually pretty good. The place is pretty clean with a friendly staff and has a great selection of grocery items. If you’re in McMinnville, this is it’s version of New Seasons Market. You can order your food and eat it in the dining are or outside.
Dishes Tried:
Marinated Tofu Sandwich
The baked tofu burger was pretty good and I ordered some vegan lentil soup to go along with it. Other times I’ve had the toasted bagels with non-dairy cream cheese. Not sure if they offer that anymore. The focacce sandwich is pretty good as well. Also, if your in the mood for something to drink, don’t forget to try their fresh juices. My favorite is the carrot, celery and beet. My only wish is they bring back the bbq seitan strip sandwich which was excellent.

Ruby Tuesday

Good Mini Veggie Burgers
I like to stop here when I visit family. Although they don’t have many vegetarian options I make due and order their veggie burgers with a side of fries. It also comes with your choice of soup or salad bar. I go for the salad bar and get extra portions. You get all that for just $10. I always end up giving the fries to my nephews anyway, hah! Other than that, the overall cleanliness of venue is pretty well kept and the staff is friendly and service quick. At least the times I’ve been here.
Dishes Tried:
Veggie Burger
If your veg’n like me order it w/o mayo and cheese. The bbq sauce is more than enough.

Jimmy Mak's
Portland, OR
Live Jazz = Fun!
I go here a few times a year to hear Linda Hornbuckle and Patrick Lamb, two of my favorite local musicians. The venue is large and can accomodate groups up to 20 easily. Reservations are a must on any weekend show so be sure to call in advance. Cover charge is $10 which goes to the artist. The few items I tried are okay at best. I have to say most are a little overpriced judging by the small portion you receive so stick to the appetizers if you can. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a happy hour which is pretty popular among the local crowd.
Dishes Tried:
Falafel
I’ve had better but I don’t come here for the food. The baklava was also edible and could have been double the size for $6.

Sushi Hana
Tigard, OR
Happy Hour Prices
I like coming here once in awhile with friends when I crave avocado rolls and veggie tempura. Service is a little slow considering it’s packed. Had to wait for someone to come around and give me my tab on a few occasions. Also, most of the staff have language barriers which makes ordering a little complicated especially if your vegetarian. In any case, half price items during lunchtime seven days a week makes the visit worthwhile. Location is pretty accessible and chefs are quick with special orders. Ask and you shall receive!
Dishes Tried:
Avocado Roll
I don’t eat much compared to most patrons. Four plates usually comes around at $4-5 during lunch hour. Good deal and it fills me up. My favorite is the vegetable tempura.

Mississippi Pizza & Pub
Portland, OR
Vegan Pies
I like to head here whenever I volunteer across the street at the Rebuilding Center. The vegan pies are pretty good but ironically, they make them different each time I visit. The wheat crust is the best part. The pub hosts fun events like trivia, spelling bee, and karaoke nights in Atlantis Lounge. The venue also has an assortment of local music talent. Place is clean but sometimes people don’t bus their own damn tables which makes me annoyed when I want to sit down and eat.
Dishes Tried:
Vegan Slices
It’s a hit and miss but pizza is tasty. They also have a cold case with Izze soda and root beer.

Voodoo Doughnut
Portland, OR
The Magic is in the Hole!
I blame a friend for making me addicted to this joint. Well, you gotta admit, who doesn’t like this sweet treat every now and then. Voodoo has two locations and I prefer this one over the one on Davis across the bridge. It’s less crowded and has a more vegan punk aura to it. The tiny space is filled with obit clippings, stickers, ads and P-town memorabilia. Prices are good and staff is pretty cool. When you order, you’ll find they always put the vegan donuts on the top tier.
Dishes Tried:
Raised
They have a good selection of treats and all pretty good. My picks are the glazed, chocolate covered coconut and old fashioned. They also make a vegan glazed that’s big enough for two.

Karam Restaurant
Portland, OR
Good Lebanese Food!
This is another good spot for Lebanese food. I’ve been here a few times and found the atmosphere quiet and serene. Although not my personal favorite, service lacks a little sometimes but staff and cozy setting make up for it. Prices are reasonable, however some of the entrees I tried could have had larger portions. Other than that, this is a nice place to visit after work or a weekend lunch.
Dishes Tried:
Veggie Kibbee Nayee
This was served cold when it arrived and was confused since I usually order this entree at Habibi’s all the time and it’s hot. The same family operates this venue which makes matters more complex. Putting that aside the kousa mekle and fried cauliflower is also a tasty appetizer for the veggie lovers. I plan on trying more items on my next visit.

Yummy For My Tummy!
Okay, maybe it’s the fact that I have Lebanese heritage but I love this place and head here whenever I’m downtown. My face has since become recognizable among the friendly and helpful staff. Place is pretty clean and has hookah lamps decorating the staircase along with cool funky looking table pieces. Prices are also reasonable and portion sizes of plates is usually substantial.
Dishes Tried:
Artichoke Heart Casserole
Have tried the above mentioned item along with eggplant casserole, vegan pizza, veggie kibbah (yummy), veggie bamie, medammas, and majadra. I like them all. If your trying to budget, a cheap favorite is their lentil soup with a big serving of pita bread for dipping. It’s pretty filling. The jallab and tamarind juice is also excellent!

Bob's Red Mill
Portland, OR
Vegan Flapjacks and French Toast!
I visit this place for breakfast 1-2 times a year and it’s a real treat considering I work Mon-Fri and have something going on every weekend. Bob’s is located out in Milwaukie and is kinda out of the way if your coming from the westside like me. It’s worth the trip either way. They cook your food in a cafeteria like setting and bring it out to you in a timely fashion. Every time I’ve been there, it’s usually busy, Staff is very friendly and you can shop in the grocery store while you wait for your food.
Dishes Tried:
French Toast
I’v tried almost everything that is vegan on menu. My personal favorites are the flapjacks, veggie sausage, grilled tomato & soy cheese sandwich and bean soup.
