Mimi's Cafe

 1115 Walnut St
Cary, NC

good food, large portions

Mimi’s cafe on Walnut street is great. The decor of the restaurant is a little cheesey (New Orleans/Jazz theme), but doesnt detract from the dining experience.
Breakfast is served every day until 4 with lots of different breakfast combinations (ex. French toast, 2 eggs, & bacon ~ $7.49; eggs benedict, hashbrowns, juice ~ $8.49).
There’s a great lunch (or anytime) combo of soup & salad, that also comes with a large muffin. There are about 5 choices of salads (cobb, crispy chicken, caesar, etc), a couple soup choices (changes daily, corn chowder & french onion everyday), and more muffin choices (for ~ $9).
If the prices seem a little high, the portions make up for it. The “petite” salad was enough to be stuffed at lunch and have plenty to take home. The breakfast platters also leave lots of leftovers. Sanwiches, too, are very large. I havent eaten there for dinner but I imagine it to be the same.
Overall, Mimi’s is a reliable restaurant with fair prices for the amount of food they give. It’s location makes it a great starting point for weekend outings as it is across from Cary Towne Center, Barnes & Nobels, Harris Teeter, etc.

Petite Cobb Salad

Good salad! Turkey, bacon, avocado, green onions, egg, tomatoes & crumbled bleu cheese with your choice of dressing. I cant image how big the regular salad would be, I couldnt even eat all of this one!

YoHo Asian Bistro

 Tryon Rd
Cary, NC

not so great

I had heard it wasnt very good, but thought it would have to better than a cheaper regular chinese place… wrong! I got the sesame chicken lunch combo which comes with rice and a spring roll. Sesame chicken is a risky choice since it’s usually sickeningly gross and mysterious or really good – YoHo’s was soggy, soaking in sauce, and low-grade mystery gooey chicken on the inside. The sauce was fine, though. The rice & spring roll were sub par. I was hoping it would rival pei wei for Asian cuisine, but it’s not even close.
The inside of the restaurant looked nice, though. Maybe it’s better if you dine-in.
Overall my experience was disappointing.
