Papa John's Pizza

 1114 Mainstreet
Hopkins, MN

Decent Pizza, Amazing 'Cinnapie'

The pizza is decent, but it’s nothing you can’t get from any other pizza chain, I’d say it’s a cross between Domino’s and Pizza Hut if I had to describe it in those terms. The Best thing about Papa John’s is actually their Cinnapie, which is basically a thin-ish crusted dessert pizza with sugar, cinnamon, and frosting on it. It’s quite rich, and very good, the size is pretty decent too, I think it’s about the size of a small pizza, maybe slightly larger.

Very, very good. If you enjoy a rich dessert, this is definitely for you, also you can pick between the regular cinnapie, or you have the option of them adding extra frosting. The greatest part of the extra frosting? It doesn’t cost any more! Not 50 cents, not 10 cents more, it’s the exact same price. Any other pizza chain will charge extra for more frosting (which is fine, I don’t mind 50 cents or so extra, but it’s a nice touch that Papa John’s doesn’t charge any extra).

Domino's Pizza

 1430 Mainstreet
Hopkins, MN

Ok Pizza, Good Sides

Before Domino’s had it’s significant overhaul to its recipe (pizza sauce, bread, cheese, etc.), I much enjoyed the pizza, but now I don’t care for the it (don’t care for the new pizza sauce mainly). The sides are still really good though. I enjoy the breadsticks and cinnasticks a lot. Also worth noting, is that Domino’s has what I think is easily the best online ordering system of any pizza place, which I like a lot.

Cinna Stix

If you like bread, sugar, cinnamon, and frosting, then I think it’s safe to say you’ll really like cinna stix; although this side isn’t revolutionary, I’d say they do it justice.

Evergreen Taiwanese Restaurant

 2424 Nicollet Ave
Minneapolis, MN

Oh the Veganity of it All!

This place is amazing, it’s in the lower-level of a very unassuming building, so it may be easy to miss, but under no circumstances should it be! This place has a plethora of vegan options, which are nicely labeled right on the menu (vegan as is, or can’t be made vegan are the two labels). This place is a little ways away for me to go, but it’s definitely worth it, and I’ll absolutely be back, and soon. There are just too many great dishes I need to try; in my opinion, this restaurant is ‘bucket list’ worthy.

Potatoes and Mock Duck

The mock duck is simply amazing; although this is the first time I’ve had thinly cut potatoes added into the mix, it was a good addition!

Davanni's Pizza & Hot Hoagies

 15200 Hwy 7
Minnetonka, MN

Good Pizza and Hoagies

The pizza and hoagies here are pretty good; I’ve often ordered the veggie hoagie when I’m not craving pizza. The location is nice, right off highway 7, can’t miss it. The service was good and it usually doesn’t take too long for the food, which is fairly impressive considering it’s hard to rush cooking a large pizza for instance. The vegetarian options are plentiful, and they even have a new section on their website devoted to their vegetarian options (currently not filled with much, but in the future it says it will be); however, vegan options are seemingly nonexistent.

Veggie Hoagie

The hoagie was pretty good, the pizza sauce that’s soaked into the bun is a good touch, and I like how they have the option of wheat bread (which is the one I got). The hoagie bun is pretty good, soft and fresh tasting.

YoYo Donuts

 5757 Sanibel Dr
Hopkins, MN

Good Donuts, Local Ingredients Used

The donuts are pretty good, and there are a decent selection of them; however, the earlier in the day you get there the better selection you get as they make all they’re going to make that day in the early morning (probably not too different from most other bakeries or donut shops). I can’t speak for the coffee, as I’m not a coffee drinker, but I’ve heard it’s good, and I especially like how they source their ingredients locally when possible. For instance, they get their milk from a Minnesotan farm, and re-use (disinfect between uses of course) glass containers to get it from the farm to the donut shop.

Big Ten Restaurant & Bar - Hopkins

 1106 Mainstreet
Hopkins, MN

Above Average Sports bar

I would say the food offerings are decently varied and the quality pretty good, and it easily out does the average sports bar. The atmosphere is about what you’d expect from a sports bar, and probably varies depending on what main MN sports games are being played, but I didn’t find it overly loud. Service was good, food was hot and out in a decent amount of time, overall, I’d say it raises the bar for sports bars.

Veggie Grilled Cheese

This was pretty good, I’d never had mushrooms or cucumbers on a grilled cheese sandwich, but it turned out to be surprisingly good, and something different.

Jamba Juice

 7511 France Ave S
Edina, MN

The Best Smoothies (Several are Vegan)

The smoothies are very, very good. They’re probably the best smoothies one can get short of making your own. Also, all of the ‘All Fruit Smoothies’ are vegan (except the Protein Berry Workout with Soy Protein), and most of the boosts are vegan too (on their website it lists what’s vegan and what’s not as well). Sure, there’s a lot of sugar since it’s a lot of fruit, but I could definitely be consuming much more fattening and less healthy treats than jamba juice.

Cleveland Wok

 767 Cleveland Ave S
St Paul, MN

Good Food, Great Value

The food was pretty good, I enjoy a lot of broccoli and other vegetables in lo mein and fried rice, and I wasn’t disappointed as there were plenty of vegetables either in there, or separate at the buffet that I could add to my plate. It’s hard to beat the value of the buffet considering the food is pretty good (tasting, and in my opinion, quality), and the cost fairly low.

Highland Grill

 771 Cleveland Ave S
St Paul, MN

Great Food, Good Vegetarian Options

There are a lot of great tasting vegetarian options, such as the vegetarian chili, many of the breakfast items (e.g. Breakfast burrito), and more. I especially like how they serve breakfast foods all the time. When they were busy and I was waiting for a table, they took down our cellphone number and called us when a table was ready. I thought this was pretty cool since there’s a place just across the street on the corner that sells all kinds of odds and ends, so I was able to burn up some of the time there instead of standing or sitting around while staring at the wall.

Hopkins, MN

Good Food, Nice Atmosphere

I can’t speak to the coffee as I don’t drink the stuff, but the food and service was good. There are several vegetarian options, and I really like how they use reusable dishes instead of throwaway plastic. This place has tables as per normal, but it also has a sofa with a coffee table to sit and eat on, which was quite comfortable (and was where I ate).
