Delicious chicken: Great Take-out!

I loved it! The food prices are amazing for the generous portion sizes. The shop itself is rather small with about 7 bar stool type seats and a sterile white decor however there is a steady stream of people coming in to order. I recommend getting there EARLY or calling in your order to avoid line ups. The sauce on the chicken was great. I found the fries a bit lacking in crunch but the dessert more than made up for that…delicious custard tart with strawberry on top….Will definitely be back and have already started spreading the word. Great location about 5 mins walk from the base of Mt. royal. Perfect for a picnic lunch there. Don’t forget to grab utensils and napkins…they don’t put them in the bag!
Great way to eat on the cheap. Service came with a smile that day too despite the business.

1/4 frango combo

Frango is chicken and a 1/4 chicken combo is definitely enough for 2 people . Portions are HUGE.
The combo comes with salad and a ton of fries, a bread roll and a dessert. 8$ tax incl. Roll and dessert were uber-fresh. I just could have had some more crunch and ketchup for my fries.

1$ for a soft drink and a ton of other yummy looking pastries line the shop at really cheap (under 2.00 tx incl. prices)

block party

I was here for the grand re-opening block party. The restaurant had been closed and renovated following a fire.

Lineups are legendary here. I joined the lineup before trying to look for anyone I was supposed to meet. There’s not much to look at while you wait, besides the enormous pastry counter, the fridge with cold imported soft drinks and beer, and the large clock ticking away the minutes in line.

I waited 25 minutes before reaching the kitchen to place my order. Once I did, I got my dinner pretty quickly in a Styrofoam clamshell. Then the cashier rang it up and wrapped my chosen dessert. I had to ask for the promotional red canvas bag.

The restaurant had almost no seating inside (perhaps a dozen chairs max, at high tables overlooking the street). Picnic tables were set up across the road at a garage, along with balloons and recorded music at a tolerable volume. There was no shade from the burning sun.

I never did meet up with my dinner group, and I brought home half my meal. As I left, the lineup now snaked out the door and halfway down the block. Who knows how long those poor people had to wait. I’m not that patient.

I am undecided about returning. The food was OK, the wait in line much too slow, and the place set up to eat was not comfortable.

1/4 frango combo

The meal was dominated by the French fries: the generously-salted thick slices completely covered everything else in the container. Buried underneath were 4 pieces of chicken that were well cooked but greasy, and a tiny serving of tossed salad. On the side, in a small white paper bag, was a large white crusty bun. The bun was very dry and crumbly.

The meal comes in a choice of spicy or not spicy, and I chose not spicy.

cornetteria

The Portuguese version of a cannolli: a cinnamon-dusted shell filled with a choice of cream or custard (“white” or “yellow” as the cashier put it), and a smidgen of chocolate on the edge. I would have liked it a bit crisper, but it was tasty.
