Healthier fast food..

I ate at the Greek Corner Cafe for the second time yesterday (12/1/2009). It’s located in a food court on Midway Drive and Kemper Street near the Sports Arena. This place is a lot nicer than the other restaurants in the court. It has patio dining with tablecloths. The workers are very friendly and they bring out your food to you. I still consider it fast food but with better service and atmosphere. It’s a great alternative to other fast food.

11/2010 – I ate here again and it was delicious. I ordered the gyros sandwich ($7) and it came with a fresh salad. The portion of gyros meat was plentiful. The only minor issue was they forgot to grill the onions as I had requested.

12/2010 – I ordered 2 gyros sandwich plates to go and requested that they not warm it up because I wanted to prepare it at home (30 min drive). When I got home everything was perfect. I warmed up the pita bread and gyros meat on my cast iron skillet and it was delicious.

Gyros Combo Platter

I was real hungry and wanted to treat myself without spending too much. I had to stick with what I knew and that was the Gyros Combo Platter for $11.40 with a fountain drink. It comes with a small salad, rice, pita bread, and a very reasonable amount of tender gyros meat. I don’t really like salads but this one was worthy. The lettuce was clean and green with ripe tomato slices and cucumber that was also clean and peeled; I don’t like it when other places don’t peel the cucumber. The gyros meat was tender, flavorful, and not dry like other places. The meat and pita bread wasn’t as hot as when I ate there on my first visit several months ago, but overall a very good meal at a reasonable price. It’s a good amount of food. Yet, I didn’t feel bloated as if I had just eaten a grease combo. I highly recommend if you’re in the area and don’t want the normal fast food or Subway.
