Excellent dining in a scenic setting
Max’s combines an understated elegance and top notch service with a personal touch that adds just enough informality. The menu has been slightly different each time we’ve been there (and sadly the wonderful mushroom strudel appetizer which used to be a staple is no longer there). There are always a full complement of steaks, but also a good variety of seafood, chicken, and the occasional lamb. While at most restaurants I zero in pretty quickly on a selection this menu usually leaves me to mull several attractive alternatives before I decide.
Dishes Tried:
Scallops over risotto
The scallops were excellent. They were large and succulent, with an interesting sauce. The corn risotto had an interesting and pleasant flavor. The texture of the rice itself, while good, was not the best I’ve had. Fresh cherry tomato halves were a nice addition.
WEDGE SALAD
As salads go this one was top notch. A simple wedge of crisp iceberg, fresh tomato, topped with bacon and blue cheese. Almost a meal in itself.
