A Lunch chowhound from Newark, NJ tried it, didn't like it, and rated it . They didn't like the food, liked the service, and liked the ambiance.

Did someone say Korean BBQ???

Yeah, so when I’m craving Korean BBQ I frequent Shilla. Flavorful, quality meats, delicious side dishes, attentive service (this is rare in a lot of Asian restaurants), clean facilities, well-appointed furnishings/decorations, reasonable prices. What’s not to like about this place? In my experience I’ve never had to wait for a table as it’s a rather large, three level restaurant. This also makes it a great place to go to with large groups. My only suggestion is that it could use some background music. My mom in-law is a fastidious eater, so if this place can make her walk out of there with a stuffed belly and a smile across her face then it definitely deserves a thumbs up. Final note, and this may or not be to your liking, if you get only one order of a meat dish such as the bulgogi or the kalbi, it will be cooked in the kitchen for you. I’m apt to that approach as I can enjoy my meal without smelling like BBQ afterwards.

I’ve tried a ton of the Korean BBQ restaurants in the area and this is by far my favorite one to go to. Just about everything on the menu is good so give it a shot!

Jap Chae

Well prepared. Very tasty.

Bul Go Gi

safe choice in NYC K-Town

Though you may pay a little more in terms of price, this is still a good option. I have been to the Shilla in Seattle which I don’t like, but this Shilla was much better. The food is really good and they make the food spicy like it should be. They didn’t seem to hold back like they do at some of these places.

Also this restaurant is friendly for those who maybe aren’t too familiar with Korean food – it’s more Americanized inside and there’s more non-Asians in here than the others, and yet it’s still good!

Kimchi Jigae

Delicious and SPICY! I can never get enough spice :-) But they made this one really good. I was happy with the dish.

K-Town Standard

Every time I want food in K-town, I head to Shilla. It’s really one of the best options in the area. Of course, there is the selection of Korean barbecue, and Shilla definitely holds its own. All the usual such as special marinated boneless short ribs are deliciously seasoned, rich, fatty, and delicious. But don’t overlook the other menu items! Their seafood pancake is quite good, and so are their fried dumplings. Their soups are delicious, and my favorite thing on the menu is their budae jjigae. It hits the spot every time! A huge, boiling, stone pot filled with all sorts of goodies; perfect for a cold winter’s night!

K-town love

Shilla is my go-to choice in K-town. Open 24 hrs, of course, the food is always delicious. Standard K-town bbq fare, but definitely one of the better ones. Plus, they have a great budae jigae!

Budae Jjigae

Love this soup. Just a hodgepodge of everything…kim chi, ramen, fish cake, spam, hot dog, pork, etc. Warm and comforting, it always hits the spot!

Hae Mool Pajun

A nice version of the classic seafood pancake!

I’ve been there twice, though I haven’t had the chance to have bbq there. The food was really good and they had pretty big portions. I got the yook gae jang and my friend ordered the hwae dup bob, both of which was delish. We were both very very full afterwards because of the large portions they served. I would definitely go there again!
