Great Food!

I ate at Angie’s on Friday night. The food was excellent and the service was good. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and my husband had the All You Can Eat Catfish. Both were excellent. My husband loved the homemade tartar sauce. Our waitress was very pleasant despite how busy they were. We will be back next time we are in Hugo.

Excellent Chicken Fried Steak. I got the dinner portion which came with a trip to the salad bar for $10.99. The french fries were good. The gravy was good as well.

All You Can Eat Catfish

Catfish was fried perfectly in a corn meal batter. Coleslaw was excellent, as was the homemade tartar sauce. Excellent dish.

Needs a Serious Makeover

The place has an interesting circus theme going on, but the food is less than exciting. And you would think at $11 for any dinner on the menu (example: Chicken fried steak, w/potato and small salad…$11 or nearly $20 for a rib-eye steak) you would get more than standard grill cooked food.

Like so many places in south eastern Oklahoma…the food is “fried” with little other options (steaks of course not being fried).

And the prices are way over the top for what you get…as well as compared to other establishments in the area ($8 for lunch…$11 for dinner per person).

Their salad bar is a “one trip” salad bar for $5 with nothing more than pre-cut ice-berg lettuce from a bag (no spinach or Romain, etc….just iceberg with a few…and I mean few…strands of purple cabbage thrown in). The “additions” are boiled eggs, cheese, slice tomatoes, black olives, diced ham, pea salad….nothing exciting.

Do not visit this restaurant between 2pm and 4pm and think you will find a “fresh” salad bar. You will not.

The owner and her husband and son manage the restaurant and cook (as well as other employees…family owned…not 100% family operated and managed).

The “owners” NEVER make the rounds to ask how your meal is or even attempt any interaction until you show up at the cash register for that parting “how was everything” statement.

And don’t think of going there on (1) Sundays, (2) any holidays, (3) and they even close down two weeks each year so they can take a vacation. They are actually closed more than 80 days through the course of the year…which is one of the reasons their prices are so over the top for the dishes they offer! They have to pay for the nearly “quarter of the year they are closed”.

Many times when you enter the restaurant you will be “greeted” by the entire wait staff and cook and many times the “son”…sitting at a round table right by the front door, talking and have a good time….without ever getting up…one of them will tell you to “sit where you like”. VERY Un-professional…very much a lack of positive interaction.

If you are in this area and looking for a good “meal deal”…spend the extra half hour and head south to Paris Texas where your food choices are much more pleasing! And frankly…at $11 a plate…you can stop in at the Sirloin Stockade of Golden China in Paris and do an “all you can eat buffet”…for the same price and essentially better quality food.

chicken fried steak

Greasy, very over cooked, baked potato not done in the middle…salad bar did not have all of the “fixings”…and when asked about it…was told they had run out of pea salad and out of cheese. At $11…you would have thought they would have made a better effort!
